My family has been frequenting this family owned and run business since the day they opened their doors. I have tried almost everything on their great menu, never once been disappointed! I LOVE the staff and they treat us like we are in their family every visit. I would highly recommend their Burgers, good variety and you better be hungry or split one...THEY ARE HUGE, and with the BEST BEEF AROUND! Also not to miss their Breakfasts, Club Sandwich, Chicken Fried Steaks, and Daily Specials.....100% YUMMY!!! My only negative is that we wish we could eat there 7 days a week, instead of our usual 3 times! If not for those annoying monthly bills!

I'll give Back 40 a 4.5 if I can. Their burgers are HUGE! So big that I could only eat half of my sandwich. We're out of towners and tonight was our second time here. Can't complain about the quality of their burgers. This time we ordered avocado burger, bacon cheese burger, B40(double patty) and 2 buckaroo burgers. For sides, we had deep fried mushrooms, potato salad, onion rings and fries. All our sandwiches were so good and freshly made. The deep fried mushrooms came highly recommended by our server and it was pretty good. The potato salad was surprisingly light and I totally dig the pickle relish in it. The onion rings were fresh and for someone who hates onions, I had about 4. The only thing that was so-so was the fries. They were kind of soggy. Service is awesome. Our servers were attentive and friendly. So friendly that when someone ordered a triple burger and our server overheard me say I wish I could take a picture of it, she came and said she will go and take one for me. If it were not for the fries, I would have given them 5 stars. Will definitely come by the next time we're in Klamath Falls.

Excellent food and massive portions for a good price. The burgers are huge, onion rings fresh, chicken fried steak amazing. The meat is all locally sourced. The wait staff is are all unbelievably friendly and helpful even when the place is packed. Only downfall is the fries. While i've never had them, i've heard they're often soggy and not always cooked all the way through. I'd highly recommend Back 40 Cafe.

Real nice staff, pretty good food... Not sure how people are saying it's bland. *trying to keep my reviews short and to the point... But yelp wants them longer so I will be attaching this paragraph to all of my reviews. So if you're reading this, there really is no point, you might as well just stop and get on with livin' the good life :p

Since I moved to Klamath Falls in February 2014, I've eaten at Back 40 several times. Their food is fabulous and really reasonably priced. Their decor is very homey and comfortable, like my grandma's kitchen. I like the wait staff too, they are friendly and attentive even when the place is packed. You can't go wrong no matter what you order and Lord knows you won't leave less than properly stuffed.

Was traveling though Klamath and was hungry, so stopped at the back 40 cafe. Ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger for my husband, it had a stale bun, but other than that it was good. I had a smaller 1/4 rodeo burger, which was excellent. The fries were home made, too soggy for my taste, but my husband liked them. All in all, we would go back. The prices were good and the service was good.

Back 40 is always busy, so they must be doing something right, however, I have been in to eat several times and haven't had a really great meal there. It's always OK, just not great.

Let me preface this by saying, that we have only had breakfast here. I have "heard" that the burgers are really good, but you don't eat burgers for breakfast. Let's move on to breakfast: I had the chicken fried steak (CFS) and first of all the gravy hadn't been cooked off enough and it tasted like flour. There were no discernable pieces of sausage in this gravy and it was bland! The eggs were cooked fine, (ordered, over medium). The steak itself was probably the worst version of CFS I have ever eaten. Tough, tasteless and not worth bending the fork over. The Hashbrowns, all I can say is yuck! They came in chunks (shredded chunks). Parts were cold and parts were warm. Nothing consistant.. Some of the browns it seemed like they had been deep fried and were extremely hard and nasty. The bisquits were flavorless and my partners statement was "there was nothing good about that breakfast". Last thing is they forgot to butter my english muffin. Others have stated the other two meals are OK, but when you can't cook a decent breakfast, I don't have a ton of faith in the other two meals.

Me and the Family had a chance to stop by here and the atmosphere was good, old school throwback. The thing we ran into was that the staff was not friendly, had a difficult time refilling our drinks. I had a turkey sandwich and that part was good. I would however skip the fries and go with some other side. The fries were dreadful, they were soggy and not to appetizing.

Went here almost a year ago so sorry my info is a little dated. Went here on Father's Day, by myself. My family was out of town and figured a good burger, some fries, the newspaper and an ice tea would keep me company. Pretty busy place. Burger and fries were good nothing great just a good burger. What was cool was that apparently they were giving away a free lunch to the dad of their choice. Don't know how they knew I even had a family but they picked me. Didn't know till I was leaving to pay. I thought that was really really cool. I was missing the fam so that was a great surprise. Thanks.

Delicious. I have eaten here 2 times in the last week and have not been disappointed at all. Great food. Burgers are made with local ingredients and are absolutely wonderful. Chicken fried steak omelette is top notch too. I would sincerely recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a solid American Restaurant. The only thing I would say could use improvement is the location itself. It's a little small and a little hidden. This has potential to be a Klamath favorite, much like Starvin Marvin's or Mollie's (RIP)

I absolutely love the Back 40, it has a family feel to it. The staff are friendly and playful and the food is amazing. By far the best burgers and chicken fried streak in town!

They always have satisfactory food. They are nearby my home so it's easy to get to, but the service is sub-par. They cooks are incredibly slow, the waiters can't remember what you want even when they write it down, and you can always rely on a long wait, whether ordering your first, or ordering any refills.

Well, we went for breakfast, always like to support a local business and since this is fairly new in town, gave it a shot. Saturday, 10'ish (morning). Easy parking, we got a table as the booths were filled. A strange layout but the food is what makes or breaks a place. I had the Buckaroo breakfast, my partner in crime had pancakes (no butter please). The staff was friendly; the food came quickly, even as the place filled while we waited for food. The food: the buckaroo is a biscuit with gravy, 1 egg, hash browns, and either bacon or link sausage. I went with bacon and an egg over easy. An aside: does any place make their own gravy anymore? The gravy was canned, chemical and bland; the biscuit was at least day old and tough, the egg was fine, the bacon just "too" done and the hash browns greasy. This is the kind of meal we use to call a hangover breakfast lots of grease and salt and would settle in your stomach and absorb that lingering alcohol. But, as a sober adult very uninspiring and mediocre. The pancakes, the comment was, they're okay, but they were sitting on the butter when no butter was specified. The portions were good size, the price decent, 2 coffees and 2 meals plus a tip under $20. But the food, meh. Worth a trip back, or a recommendation? No.

Only go if you are hungry! Very nice staff and large portions, almost to large. Have been here for breakfast and lunch many times, they now have diner but have yet to try it. Potatoes are all done fresh so if you don't like the less crispy fresh cut fries you may want another side. Hash browns looked and tasted fresh shredded every time. Main breakfast items are very good. Have tried there chicken fried steak ( very good local beef) and omelets ( about what you would expect from a dinner and look to bee about 3 egg size) For lunch have had there burgers ( big and very good flavor ) and hot dogs ( the regular one is huge so now I get the smaller "pup". Great flavor and they must deep fry it to get it so equally crispy. Offered a variety of toppings I.e. cheese onion chili.) comes with half a plate of fresh cut fries. What makes this place stand out is the friendly hard working people! My go to place when I am starving.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch on our way home from Portland. Having eaten all interesting local cuisine we didn't want to break the routine and eat at a chain. We decided on Back 40 based on Yelp reviews and that it was open on Sunday. It's a diner. There's nothing wrong with diners as long they aren't pretending to be anything more. Diners do soups and sandwiches and short order food. Diners do not make sushi, curry, pheasant under glass or strawberries Romanov. This makes back 40 a good diner. I ordered a burger and, uncharacteristically, so did my wife. The regular sized burger had to be 6 inches in diameter. The large portion is not a gimmick to make up for poor quality. In fact, it was quite good. The beef was fresh and from local sources. The produce was also fresh and ripe and for November that's quite a feet. I didn't think I could eat that entire sandwich but before I knew it, I was finished and stealing my wife's fries. The fries were a little spongy but that's to be expected when you cut them fresh and don't bread them. The staff were very nice and attentive. The only thing I could have asked for was to be given a choice in the cook time of my burger. Good meat deserves to be tasted.

There were four of us in our party and we all had something different. The verdict from all four was how great the food was. I had the Corned Beef Hash which is UNBELIEVABLE! They make their own and it comes with two eggs any style and choice of breads (I had the English Muffins). Even the English Muffin was of highest quality, light and thick, not the usual restaurant style. I had coffee to drink and it was good, although I like mine really strong which you usually don't find in most places, but it was still good. Service was first cabin and quick. The price was more than reasonable and rest assured, if this place was in the Willamette Valley, you would be paying at least 30% more. No kidding! Portions are HUGH. I look forward to going back on my next trip to K-Falls.

We were visiting from Medford and decided to give this place a try. They serve Prather Ranch beef and home cut fries with the skins still on. The ingredents were fresh and the prices were great for the size served. The burgers are HUGE. Not just saying that. These were the best burgers we have had in years. (Remember we are from Medford and have Red Robin here. No compairson!) Our watress was outstanding and we later found out she was also the owner. They have other things on the menu that looked wonderful as they came out. This place will make me want to visit Klamath more often.

I don't get all the excitement about this place. I ordered a Cheeseburger, with mustard, and repeated "NO MAYO". Yeah. I got mayo and no mustard. It is a huge burger. However, it was overcooked on a stale and dried up bun. I thought it would be hard to screw up a cheeseburger. I was wrong. I spent $9 bucks for a crap meal. It was a take out order. They told me 20 minutes. I was there in 10, and the burger was sitting on the counter waiting. If they can't get a burger right, don't know if I trust them to get anything else right. They will have to give me a reason to darken the door again. Should have gone to North Shore.

Best food in klamath by far! I absolutely love it the food is all fresh and homemade. Defiantly something that reminds me of grandmas kitchen. Seemed a bit pricey for a burger, until I got it. It was Huge! Good, too. People were good friendly folks, who were very accommodating when I got an important call and suddenly & urgently needed pen & paper for something.
